Funny Kale Stores

The story set-up. It's me and Kale in the bathroom and no one else in sight. He's swinging a plastic slinky around. Here's the conversation:

K: I hit with this.
M: No. We don't hit.
K: I hit Lucas with it?
M: Absolutely not.
K: I will.
M: Don't you hit my Lucas.
K: He's my Lucas.
M: No way. He's my Lucas.
...back and forth a couple more times....
K: He's my Lucas. I got him for Christmas.

We're driving through an empty (that's a good thing) downtown Rogers Saturday late morning and Kale's window is down. For whatever reason he decides to get very excite about flags and starts shouting thinks like;

I see a flag.
There's another flag.
That's a big flag.
I see no more flags.
Where the flags?

What made it funny is that the l sound could not be heard when he said flag! Reminded me of the days of picking Jamey up from the Lou. Him hanging out the window shouting all kinds of crazy things.

Haunted Halloween weekend with the Kaisers

Okay so it wasn't really haunted but there was some spooky sounds going on. You get used to that when you live with boys! FYI, Em doesn't not like ghosts! After the revolution knocked around the soccer ball Saturday morning (ahhh....Logan nearly scored about 6 times! It was their best game ever!) we made a quick trip to KC for our annual Halloween celebration with the Kaisers. Not nearly the grand affair we normally have since it was a such a short trip. Plus we have got to start pacing our creative juices. You use up all your good ideas too soon and you wind up with nothing down the road. We did go to a pumpkin patch or should I say a patch of grass with pumpkins spread out on it. Hey they had pumpkins and hail bails for taking pictures therefore, it technically counts as a patch..although not to Em's standards. We had a K-State game to watch we had to call an audible. So instead of the Deanna Rose farm or a real pumpkin patch the Church around the corner had to cut it. Not that watching the game brought the Cats any luck since we took a L against Colorado. BOO! As you would expect we started our evening with an Asian Feast from East China (now that says Halloween) and then moved right into the main events of face painting and pumpkin carving. For the record Ryan was totally against the face painting from the get go and wasn't too into the carving hence his lame jack-o-lanterns. Camden was my first victim for face painting. We learned from hear that covering your entire face in red paint is not the best idea. It came off by mid Sunday morning. No harm no foul. You will seen the the pictures that face painting is not our expertise. The kids gave us the direction and we just followed on. Logan was the smart one and just went with a spider on his face. After face clean-up the carving competition began. Kasey D-Qed from the beginning because she has no carving spirit. I took first prize and Steve was a distant second and Ryan didn't even place. Jack-o-lanterns don't count boys! While the Halloween event didn't have all the bells and whistles of past years, the kids had a great time and we'll do it again next year.

Choppin' logs

Friday was a day without school so I took a vacation day to stay at home with the whole fam and what a vacation it was! We spent most of the day splitting our stack of lumber. Steve believes we now have enough wood split for the next two years. I love a good fire in the winter so we'll see. As you can tell from the picture we had some excellent help. They all helped split the wood and even stack it back up. Logan can't hear out of his left ear from running the splitter but whatever!

Mad Pizza

Tucker Elementary (Steve's school) had family night so as loving and supportive family that we are, we joined them. Plus the ladies that Steve teaches with didn't really believe that I exist because they have never seen me at the school. Hello, I have a j-o-b! They now know that I am real and so are his kids. While eating this not-so-appetizing pizza a magician came to the table and made the boys balloon "swords". The boys loved the swords but I think this guy was "mad" for thinking they looked like swords. He may need to go back to clown school. Logan tipped the guy for these alleged "swords" and the guy turned it into a $100 bill by folding and unfolding. Logan seriously wanted his dollar back. He keeps asking me to do the same thing.

Lucas Logic

So this is how Lucas' mind works. He decided (after he was dressed) that he didn't want to wear shorts he wanted to wear jeans. So instead of just saying that he walks down the hallway to our bathroom and says:

L: Daddy, Moms says...oh, your not Daddy. Mommy, Daddy says these shorts are too big.
M: No he didn't. They fit fine.

seconds later here come Steve into the closet to put his jeans on.

L: Daddy I want to wear jeans like you.
S: No just wear the shorts you have on and you can wear jeans tomorrow.
L: NOOOOO. I remember when I wore these shorts last and peed in them and you wouldn't even was them. They are still wet.
S: Huh, I don't remember that.
M: Me either.
L: You never remember. I was last year in the winter.
S: Oh, now I remember. When I let you wear shorts when it was freezing out and you peed in them. Oh yeah. That sounds just right.
M: Lucas are you tricking us?
L: You guys never remember anything. UGhhhh

He wore the shorts jeans to school today.

Outdoor weekend

Fall in Arkansas is beautiful and we were able to spend almost the entire weekend enjoying it. Logan had a really hard spelling test this week and Lucas had his first official note home from school. So when I picked them up Friday from school with Logan beaming from his 100% on his test and Lucas with a positive note from his teacher we celebrated with a trip to the park...after a trip thru happy hour first! Lucas' picked up another saying this week...oh, snap...where am I sending this kid to school? He also spent the better part of an afternoon back in the Peds office for his double ear infection. Heading down the path for our 3rd set of tubes. Saturday morning started with both soccer games at 9:00. Apparently Lucas was amazing and even scored a goal! The Revolution barely got another W over the Wizards. Logan played pretty well. Steve and Logan spent most of Saturday at the cub adventure in Fayetteville. Allegedly Logan shot a bee-bee gun and a bow & arrow. There are no witnesses to verify his story. Drew and Bunnie came down Friday night for pizza, beer and a fire. The boys roasted/ate marshmallows & broke out the glow sticks. Today we survived mass without any major scenes. Steve took Lucas and Logan on a hike on a trail near Beaver Lake while Kale and I made dinner to take to our neighbor Marie who is recovering from surgery to remove her cancer. She now faces 7 weeks of radiation so keep her in your prayers.

Two and a half

So I was curious how much the boys looked at like at the age of 2 1/2 so I found a picture of each of them at that age. Not as much similarity as I thought there would be.

The Twins are the same again

In every effort for Logan to keep up with his twin from another mother (Emerson) he will be adding glasses to his look. He as actually really excited about it, which I guess is good for us. He vision isn't too terribly bad but we all know that it will be as he doesn't come from good stock when it comes to eyes. (Thank goodness that the gene pool for good looks is strong!) We knew it was only a matter of time but we were certainly hoping it wouldn't be as early as 1st grade. He picked out a pair that is relatively cute when you consider that they really don't make very cute little boy glasses. The one pair that was super cute cost $300 which I refuse to pay for without knowing that he will really wear them. I really wanted some plastic framed glasses but apparently those aren't a big hit with little boys so they don't carry any options for boys...I know this because the girl helping had to tell me several times that "those are girl's frames". Whatev...get some cute boy frames! Anyway he should have them by the end of next week. I will post a picture once we have one. Of course, I am sending my camera in to get fixed again so it will depend on me having batteries charged for my old battery eating camera.

On the Lucas front...he came home from school saying, "Great scott!". He's pretty cool.

Dinner Table Conversation

Now that Logan is really getting into spelling and math we often spell or add/subtract problems when we are at the table. Tonight, we were doing word problems such as we have 3 boys if all of them took of their socks how many socks would we have. One guess to who did this one: There are 3 boys, all of them run away with a dragon how many boys do Mom & Day have? Did you get it right? It was Lucas. There was tons more to his story but there's no way I could remember it all. I can only imagine the stories he tells at school!

Busy weekend at the Beren's house. Cub scouts on Friday night (already can't wait for that to be over). Soccer on Saturday morning. Lucas' practices was canceled due to a pop-up T-Storm but Logster's game was on. We got beat (5-2) and I had to pull one of my kids off the field for being a poor sport but Logan was a superstar goalie! He had at least 3 key saves and was amazing. I'm firing my photographer as these are the pictures he captured:

We also did our fair share of economic stimulation. Steve bought a new riding mower since he broke the engine of our "old" one. I bought a new TV since our old one took a several minutes to "warm" up before we could see the picture clearly. We replaced the BBQ 2 weeks ago since it was falling apart so hopefully nothing else will break since things come in 3's and we have hit 3. We also got all of the Fall/Winter clothes out for the boys. I hate that job. Pretty sure we will have a hot streak now.

Kale just wanted to remind you all of how cute and innocent he is!

Pulled the trains out of the attic they are building quite the little village. Doesn't it look like we need a ton more toys?
